Different Types of Roses

With so many different types of roses it can be difficult to sort out the rose types and then the varieties of roses within each type.

Here I will give the many different types broken into seven types with a brief overview of each type. Below is a simplified version.

Different Rose Types

Shrub Rose Types
This type contains many, many types of roses.  Generally speaking this group are either old species roses, old fashioned roses or modern shrub roses.

Climbing and Rambling Rose Types
This type of rose has two groupings, Climbing and Rambling.  Both can be trained, with support, to climb and spread in a certain direction.   Rambling rose types are roses that are once flowering, have long flexible stems and when they do bloom they do so with large trusses of small flowers.

The climbing type of rose could be repeat flowering, have stiffer stems and the blooms are larger.

Hybrid Tea Rose Types
These are totally different types of roses to those types already mentioned.  They are by far the most popular of all the different types of roses.  These are a long stemmed rose that is available in bush and standard type.  Hybrid tea rose types have large or medium sized blooms that have a very distinct shape.  These blooms have tight cone in the centre and opening up gradually to the outside.

Floribunda Rose Types
This type of rose is also extremely popular.  The main reasons for this rose type’s popularity are
*  Blooms are borne in trusses with many blooming at the same time.
*  They repeat flowering and provide a reliable color scheme all season long.

Miniature Rose Types
Totally different types of roses these are increasingly popular for many reasons.

1. Growing rose beds.
2. Edging of lawns and borders.
3. Useful way of growing roses in containers.
4. Also useful for growing roses for beginners.
5. With the right conditions these types of roses can be used for growing roses indoors.

Usually these types of roses do not exceed 14 inches in height.

Patio Rose Types
Different types of roses to the Miniature type these rose types are used similarly to the miniature for growing rose in containers and the front of beds.  Usually not exceeding 15inches tall these are a smaller version of the floribunda Rose types.

Different types of roses – Ground Cover Rose Types
These are different types of roses in the sense that they can be very, very, low growing or grow to about 5 feet tall.  They are an excellent type of rose for covering the less appealing aspects of your garden and have good disease resistance.
