MINIATURE ROSE TYPES

Miniature rose types are far more popular in the U.S. than elsewhere. However, the demand for this type of rose is growing worldwide. Basically they could be generally defined as scaled down versions of ordinary roses. However even within the grouping of miniature roses there are different types of rose. There are actually large and dwarf types.

Miniature rose types have a very useful range of uses. The most common use of this type of rose is in .raised beds devoted entirely to the miniature rose type. They are also used in rockeries and as edging and at the very outside of borders. Of course these types can also be grown in containers.

Miniature rose bush care maintenance is very easy. They only need a very occasional very light pruning to maintain shape and remove very old or diseased stems.

The biggest threat to these types of roses is from mildew, black spot and greenfly. Of course this applies to all the different types of roses. Because of their small root system you will need to water occasionally, but do not leave them soaked.

The care of roses such as these is also easy regarding feeding. The best approach is to feed tem a little very regularly. A liquid feed is best.

Miniature rose types were also very popular over 100 years ago but went into decline and almost became extinct. The forefather of all our miniature roses was discovered in Switzerland in 1918 and story then began again for these particular rose types.

These are a multi-purpose rose, well worth having and as you can see the care of roses such as these is not a problem

GROUND COVER ROSE TYPES

Ground cover rose types are really a sub-section of modern shrub roses. However, such is the vast range of these types of roses and their uses that many now classify them in their own grouping.

These types of roses are actually around a long time, but not in the varieties that are currently available.

The biggest issue with growing these roses originally was the fact that they were not repeat flowering. This was all to change in 1970’s and new varieties are still being propagated.

Using these roses as ground cover is not un-natural as many wild roses grow this way in nature. They are excellent for covering unsightly manhole covers, mounds, banks and this type of rose is also very effective as an edging along paths.

There is quite a selection of these rose types from types that are totally prostrate to arching to types that spread out a little to types that spread out a lot.

Growing roses such as these is straightforward. The care of roses such as these is very basic whether they are repeat or once flowering, prostrate or arched types of roses.
