Here’s a short foreword to the uses of hemp in civilization . Hemp has been around for centuries. Though not as tough as flax or other natural fibers, hemp is known to uphold its toughness for many years following originally being made into an object. Past uses of hemp include jewelry, objects of utility, like baskets, shades and even roofing.

It is in the region of hemp jewelry that this review is particularly concerned . Hemp necklaces have been in existence as far back as the fifteen hundreds in the Middle East and Asia, where they were quite common to find . It is, as many note, cultivated as a side-product of the cannabis plant. Hemp necklaces, however , are not the type that create the drug offshoot , but rather just take advantage of the fibers.

Hemp material was in fact easier to discover in the middle ages and last periods of the age than cotton or other linens, since yarn was notoriously difficult to manufacture before the creation of the Cotton Gin. Hemp necklaces, along with clothes, bracelets and other artifacts of the hemp plant were ordinary, especially in the remote areas of towns, as the best fibers were located in the city centers. Christopher Columbus’ ships actually were known to have hemp ropes to manage the huge sails. Even George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were growers of hemp on their regal era establishments .

It is not uncommon for hemp necklaces to show some signs of wear following an initial washing. This is normal , and should not cause too much concern . Hemp necklaces will, after a slight wear-in period, maintain a natural life that rivals even the mightiest trees in the forest .

Today hemp necklaces are more ordinary to find than hemp ropes or other types of clothing . The hemp plant has been mostly superseded by the flax plant when it comes to articles manufactured of organic fibers.

Some sites offer a quality hemp necklaces for low cost. See them and others for examples of the methods hemp is used in civilization today.
